The Sick, Dumb & Happy - The Charm The Fury

Artist: The Charm The Fury

Album: The Sick, Dumb & Happy

Genre: Metal

Amsterdam metallers The Charm The Fury have released their second album, The Sick, Dumb & Happy, their follow up to their 2013 debut album Shade of my Former Self. While their first album was very much your typical metalcore album, the bands sound has matured and grown since then, landing their latest release firmly in metal territory.

From the solid double kick on 'Weaponized', the guttural vocals from lead singer Caroline Westendorp to the well executed pinch harmonics on 'Echoes', the album has all of the markings of your great metal album. Showing their newfound versatility, they even manage to nail a much slower, softer song with 'Silent War', where Westendorp's clean singing is actually really incredible. I sure wouldn't be complaining if they decided to include a lot more of her clean singing on future releases.

While there are some weaker points in the album (as is the case with most albums, to be honest), for the most part, the album shows a maturity of musicianship and songwriting that will definitely serve the band well in the future. The Charm The Fury are certainly ones to watch as it seems like they've got a very bright future.

3 out of 5 stars.

The Sick, Dumb & Happy is out now via Nuclear Blast Records. Available at JB HiFi, Record Stores, iTunes and Spotify.
