One thing you should know about Therein is that they’re one of the most criminally underrated progressive metal bands around. The Brisbane four-piece have busted arse since the get go, releasing exciting and innovative music and taking their sound on the road at both festivals (Hellbound Festival, Metal Heart, Shredfest) and in support of some real heavy hitters, including Caligula’s Horse, Voyager, Breaking Orbit and Dead Letter Opener.
Let’s start from the top though, and have a quick look at their intriguing catalogue. Currently working on their second full length album that is set to define the next phase of the band, the boys are certainly no slouch to creating high quality albums. Having already released their debut album Nobelium, the band created the Pink Floyd Sessions – a ballsy move, given how protective classic rock fans are of their icons. The 25-minute medley of Pink Floyd material was conceived for an opening performance at a screening of Pink Floyd’s The Wall, before being taken into the studio to be recorded. The sound is both familiar but new, carrying the hallmarks of Pink Floyd that make their music so damn recognisable, whilst allowing the band to re-imagine the tracks into something newer.
Now back at work, Therein recently gave us a taste of what we can expect from their second full length (due out in early 2018) with the track ‘Divide’. While ‘Divide’ isn’t officially launched until November 18th at Ye Gods of Metal Festival, you can have a listen to with the band dropping the lyric video back in early November.
With so much going on in the world of Therein, it’s definitely a good time to get on board. The progressive metal band are doing some genuinely cool stuff, and we’re sure as hell tagging along for this ride.
