Thy Art Is Murder. You either love them or hate them. There’s no real middle ground. But you can’t deny that they possess some of the heaviest sounds that bludgeon your senses without fail. The extreme metal titans are back with their fifth album titled Human Target with a new face behind the drum-kit, so does this mean a paradigm shift for the band? Or is it same old, same old?

Their last release Dear Desolation was more of a shift towards traditional death metal rather than their deathcore roots and that momentum carries on with this release. Getting right to it, it’s a no nonsense affair here as the title track "Human Target" blasts out (literally) and destroys all in it’s path with a pounding groove, grating riff and CJ McMahon projecting his vocals like a vitriolic wood chipper. Things ain’t gonna slow down from here, folks. Human Target really has a bit of everything - there are cuts such as "Voyeurs Into Death", "Death Squad Anthem" and the clever play on words in the groove laden "Make America Hate Again" that are pure manifestations of death metal TAIM style, "Welcome Oblivion" and "Chemical Christ" deliver the deathcore and "Atonement", "Eye For An Eye", "Eternal Suffering" and "New Gods" learn towards more of a darker and atmospheric sound by TAIM standards without abandoning any of the core elements that they are known for. Production wise, it continues on from where Dear Desolation left off with it’s punchy, bludgeoning attack and gives the new drummer Jesse Beahler the platform to make one hell of a first impression.

At this stage of their career, TAIM aren’t reinventing the wheel, they have found their sound and know what works for them and that’s not a bad thing by any means. Human Target is TAIM firing on all cylinders musically and performance wise, ultimately delivering one hell of a blistering album and at this stage of the game, it would be hard to accept anything less from them.
