Australian Metal Bands Release Album To Raise Funds For Young Heart Patient

If this isn't a great example of the kindness that runs deep in the Australian metal community, I don't know what is.

Many of Australia’s leading heavy metal bands have rallied around to help young Kai Goddard, the son of Sydney rock photographer Mick Goddard, and are releasing a compilation fundraiser album, Kingdom Of Kai. The album, organised by Mick and guitarist Stu Marshall (ex Dungeon, Death Dealer, Empires of Eden) is aiming to raise funds in order to assist in covering the immense medical costs facing Kai and his family, with ALL profits going straight to the Goddard family. Including work from bands like Lord, Taberah, Vanishing Point, Silent Knight, and Mason, all tracks have been generously donated by the bands, with the artwork and layout donated by All Things Rotten. Kai was born on May 27, 2008 after a difficult pregnancy. Suffering from ‘tetralogy of fallot’ (essentially a hole in his heart) as well as having his liver located outside of his body, he had a 1 in 4 chance of making it. Immediately after he was born, he underwent several surgeries to put his liver back in and repair his heart. With complications arising, Kai suffered a collapsed lung, his liver dislodged and moved into his chest cavity, and his appendix was found in his scrotum. With 4 operations by the time he was 4 months, he had already spent 80 days in hospital, fighting to survive. During operation number 5, Kai suffered a heart attack, which required him to have his blood pumped for him on an ECMO machine. He was on it for 11 days. Normally, you don’t come off of it alive if you’ve been on it for more than 2 days. His family were advised to say their goodbyes. Luckily, he survived, and is now approaching his 9th birthday. Already with more battle scars than more people have in their lifetime, Kai requires constant medical care, still undergoing operations and suffering from a myriad of health problems.
