We've said it before and we'll say it again: progressive rock is having a helluva moment in Australia and New Zealand right now. Fans of the genre have been positively spoiled with a new band or new release every week to further flame our love of devastating, passionate music. Our latest favourite is Majora, the Newcastle based progressive post-rock quartet who are doing big things and making even bigger music right now.
Having formed in late 2014, the band very quickly kicked into a high gear, releasing their debut EP Iridescent in 2015. From there, they've gone from achievement to achievement, earning huge love from triple j bigwigs such as Richard Kingsmill, Dom Alessio, Zan Rowe, and being declared the winners of of the triple j competition to play at THIS THAT festival, alongside acts such as RUFUS, Birds of Tokyo, Sticky Fingers, and The Jungle Giants.
The dynamic quartet have also been putting the hard yards in on tour, hitting the road relentlessly with the likes of Jericco, Sydonia, Dumbsaint, Tangled Thoughts of Leaving, and Solkyri. Earning praise for their outstanding live shows, lucky for us Majora are hitting the road again, trekking along the east coast to co-headline select shows alongside Brisbane's Osaka Punch.
With all of this experience under their belts, and having already dropped the immense title track as a single, you can bet we're excited for their upcoming EP Aphotic. On the release the band worked with acclaimed engineer Dax Liniere, who handled engineering, mixing and production of the EP, and Forrester Savell, who took on mastering duties. Although the EP is out this Friday September 15, we've been treated to the beautiful intro track 'Fear of Falling Forever', and I've got to say, if this is the kind of high quality tune they're going to consistently be bringing to the table, I don't see the future for Majora dimming.
Sharing their excitement about the EP and tour dates, Majora released had this to say: "We are super excited to be finally getting this EP into people's ears and get some feedback on it. We've had some very positive reviews coming in already and can't wait to have it available to everyone. "The Fear of Falling Forever" is the intro to the EP that leads directly into the title track "Aphotic" and will hopefully give people a chance to hear another side to Majora. We are currently rehearsing this new material to bring it out for our tour in October with Osaka Punch and give people a chance to hear it all live!"
You can have a listen to their latest single here ahead of their EP release.
Aphotic will be out Friday September 15.
