Heavy Metal and Comics Collide In 'Maurice and the Metal'

Heavy metal music and comic books meet in the newly launched comic Maurice and the Metal, telling the journey of a young metalhead in the mid '80s who discovers he has impossible strength when he listens to Heavy Metal. Written by Brisbane's own Aaron Sammut and US comic artist Jesse Hamm, Maurice is fighting to keep metal alive, armed with nothing but his Walkman, which of course has been possessed by the spirit of a Black Sabbath roadie.

The launch of the comic will be celebrated at Brisbane's Crowbar on Saturday June 1 from 2pm at a Heavy Metal Market day, sponsored by the Maurice and The Metal, Young Henrys and Brisbane's Metal Radio station The Faction. Head on down to have a dig through mountains of heavy metal and punk vinyl provided by Sonic Sherpa and sip on Maurice and the Met-Ales, with all attendees receiving a copy of the comic (entry is free).

However you prefer to read your comics, Maurice and the Metal is available now, digitally on comixology and physically as a limited edition glossy version at maurice-and-the-metal.com.
