Review by Wade Speer

In a small town called Taree on the mid-North coast of New South Wales lives local metalcore group Diamond Construct, and aside from them about to become the next big thing in heavy music, their highly anticipated debut self titled album drops this Friday on Greyscale Records.

Prior to this release, the band gave us glimpses of what was to come with tracks “Animus”, “Submerged” and “Night Terrors”. The crushingly heavy track "Submerged" stood out especially, even after giving the whole album a listen. It just has such a hard-hitting breakdown that you can’t resist jumping out of your chair and having a cheeky mosh.

“Night Terrors” was the bands latest release with a softer chorus than most, but definitely a sound that they pull off with ease. Vocalist Kynan Groundwater expresses his difficulties tackling sleep paralysis as to what inspired this track.

This next one is undeniably the heaviest on the album. If you tell me you can control yourself from breaking your neck during “Wildfire”, you’re just straight up lying to me! Guitarist Braden Groundwater produces the sickest riffs I’ve heard in a long time. Definitely another highlight on this beast of an album.

Don’t let the 1:46 turn you off “Attitude”. It comes off the back of "Wildfire" and it punches you in the face harder than you’ve ever been punched before, just an unbelievably heavy and groovy song.

Last but not least, a song that will be on repeat for a while to come, “Gloom”. Majority of bands save their best song until last and this is no exception. It’s a perfect combination of every song that has come before it and has my favourite singing parts on the album. It still packs a punch on the heavy side to keep the head-bangers satisfied. A great song to close out a super impressive debut album.

Overall, I couldn’t fault a single song on the album. The Taree outfit paced out the album to make sure you’re never sitting still and also showing the diversity of the band’s sound. The talent that Australia keeps producing never ceases to amaze. I strongly recommend giving this band listen as soon as humanly possible. These guys have a very bright future head of them that's for sure.
