Review by Tam Schilling

Lindsay Schoolcraft shot to fame when she first joined Cradle of Filth as a backing vocalist and keyboardist back in 2013.

Since then she has been hiding behind the members of the band with her voice coming out above the band from the back of the stage. Lindsay has decided to put out a solo album showing that she is more than just a backing vocalist. Before joining Cradle of Filth Lindsay had a solo career as a singer/songwriter, pianist and harpist. Here’s a brief review of what you can expect from her solo album.

When first listening to this album I was immediately reminded of bands such as Lacuna Coil, Nightwish and Evanescence. Lindsay has co-written most of this album with former Evanescence drummer Rocky Gray. The track “See The Light” brings in some guest vocals by Xenoyr from Ne Obliviscaris which brings in some backing growls to make this track what I think is the heaviest and most powerful track on the Martyr is a very strong and powerful album which has obviously been written from the heart.

With most songs starting out with an eerier piano intro leading into the full band coming in with the pure goth rock sound whilst Lindsay’s sweet little voice comes in over the top. I absolutely love how this has been done, the piano intro is fantastic and makes these songs.

Overall this album is a very powerful solo debut. This will be a top hit with fans of bands such as Lacuna Coil, Nightwish and Evanescence.

The average Cradle of Filth fan will probably stay clear of this album as its very different to Cradle of Filth. Martyr is available worldwide from 7th October. Lindsay has put out this album entirely independently.
